The Application and Selection Process
We are looking for candidates with a passion for their subject who are able to demonstrate a positive outlook, a resilient nature and a dedication to improving the learning outcomes of the children that they teach.
Applications through the Department for Education's website are screened prior to inviting you to interview. We will look for applicants that fulfill the entry requirements and are able to demonstrate a keen desire and passion for teaching, and specifically, their chosen subject.
Generally interviews take place at the school where you would be based for your main placement. This allows you to meet the Head of your Department and/or your mentor and makes the selection process a two-way decision; can we make you into an outstanding teacher and can you see yourself training within that department? Currently interviews are also being carried out via Google Hangout online when necessary.
The interview process has three stages:
During the activity with children we will be looking for your capacity to relate to children and how well you are able to communicate your subject knowledge to them. We are looking for candidates with the potential to become great teachers, full of enthusiasm and a desire to stimulate and engage pupils.
The written task will test your ability to spot grammatical and spelling errors and then provide us with an indication of your knowledge of English Language. No matter which subject you want to train to teach you will need to promote high standards of literacy, articulacy and the correct use of standard English with all pupils.
During the interview, the panel will question you to ascertain your suitability to work with children, your subject knowledge, resilience, desire and determination to become a teacher.
When a decision has been made you will be notified via the government website.
If you do not immediately fulfil all the entry requirements for the course then a conditional offer may be made. For example, if you have not yet completed your degree. You may accept the conditional offer and once we have seen evidence that the conditions have been met then your offer would become an unconditional one.
Our commitment to safer recruitment ensures that all safeguarding checks are undertaken: references, Enhanced DBS check , prohibited teachers list check, childcare disqualification check, health questionnaire and capacity to teach check and checks from abroad where relevant.
